Tour Description

Suwon Hwaseong Fortress

Hwaseong Fortress is an impressive structure from the latter part of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910) and the official fortress of Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do province. The fortress, constructed from 1794 to 1796, was built as a display of King Jeongjo's filial piety towards his father and to build a new pioneer city with its own economic power. The fortress wall stretches for a total of 5.52km and has a great variety of military facilities that are hard to find anywhere else.

You will walk along the fortress wall which is not high but looks like just 'cute hill'. It is easy and comfortable walking. We recommend you to wear comfortable shoes and clothing. You can experience Korean Traditional Archery shooting if the archery is on operation and not sold out, because it is outside of the Seoul the organizing of archery is unstable. It is extra payment.

Then our guide will bring you to the another section of the fortress. You will see the dynamic 24 Martial Art performance here. The performance is more dynamic than the Change of the Royal Guards ceremony. The performance is about 25 minutes. No performance on Mondays.

Korean Folk Village

There is authentic Korean restaurant near by Suwon Hwaseong. You will have sightseeing to Korean Folk Village after fortress. Korean Folk Village is "Village of Korean History" so that Koreans as well as foreign tourists can understand Korean people's life.

Buildings in this village are relocated here form all over the Korea. So there are different types and functions of building according to class, job and region. For instance, a building in the south of Korean peninsular has more open space than a building in north of Korean peninsular. It's a nice experience to see the different types of houses from peasant, farmer, nobleman and magistrate officer in the past.

Folk village is not only buildings but also there are lots of culture of marketplace, farm animals, traditional performances, games as well as a museum.  This place is a one-stop place to gain a better understanding of Korean history and culture.
